What Non-Disabled People Get Wrong About Accessibility

What Non-Disabled People Get Wrong About Accessibility-must read !!

I’ve been working on this for a couple of months but it can be for Blogging Against Disablism Day 2017

I’m disabled. So are both my partners. And most of my siblings. And 85+% of my friends.
This is partly because there are a LOT of disabled people in the world, with most estimates at somewhere between 15% and 25% of people being disabled in some way. It’s also because of the way that abled (or non-disabled) people Just Don’t Get It in a million tiny huge ways that add up and can make being their friends or partners noticeably more difficult or more tiring than being friends or partners with other disabled people.

It’s not their lack of disability itself that is the problem so much as that we all live in a very disablist (ableist / anti-disabled-people / disabling) society and we’re all unlearning a load of bullshit…

Destiny awaits…move

This blog post resonated with me. Destiny awaits and it is my choice to move or not.

Have you ever listened to a great sermon, or had a revelation from God through his word and then thought, wow, that was deep, but i will act on it tomorrow? I have, many times, recently while i was listening to a sermon by Christine Caine at the Code Orange Revival, (amazing sermon by the way!) i got a revelation!

Remember the story of Moses, Pharaoh and the plagues? Particularly the “Frogs plague” Exodus 8:1-15 just read what Pharaoh said here:

“8…Pray to the Lord to take the frogs away from me and my people, and I will let your people go to offer sacrifices to the Lord.”

Moses said to Pharaoh, “I leave to you the honor of setting the time for me to pray for you and your officials and your people that you and your houses may be rid of the frogs, except for…

(Para)Olympics we are still far from Inclusion

“Until the day that the Para Olympics is mainstreamed into the real Olympics the full inclusion of people with disabilities into society will remain a pipe dream!” Couldn’t have said it any better!!!

As long as Para Olympics exist the world would not have fully included people with disabilities in the mainstream society. Let’s unpack this event from my point of view.

Initially I think the Para Olympics were designed to include people with disabilities into the Olympics as they were previously totally excluded which to me was a very good idea, (at the time). However as time passed I feel that this event is now loosing it’s relevance.

Inclusive Education :

When I was growing up it was virtually unheard of for a child with a disability to attend school with able bodied children. So many of my generation of people with disabilities passed through special school at some point in their education. Don’t get me wrong here special schools gave many of us including myself a basic educational and social foundation which I think contributed to my personal success today. However…

You are His; Nothing Changes That

This really encouraged me.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will sour on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” Isaiah 40:31

God is the only consistent One in our lives, like a river that never runs dry, His love is never ending. There’s NOTHING that you can possibly do to stop Him from loving you or giving you ALL that he promised.

I had been going through the most recently, things that left me feeling lost, confused, hurt and worst of all like there must be something i did that made God feel so far away or like he is not there at all.

It was hard to pray, well i had no words just tears. Nothing made sense, I knew the verses in the bible that spoke of what to do during the storms, what God says, but believing it was soo hard. I just honestly felt like God let’s talk about this, what is it that i need to repent about, what still binds me, please tell me because i need to be released from it, i am sorry. This had to be the explanation of the things that you have allowed to happen at this point.

Then i thought of Job, that dude in the bible whose whole life…

Faith, Reblogs

Hope again.

Faith unlocks the promises of God and it shows us the power of God and it turns dreams into reality and it gives us the power to hold on in tough times. But faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem. Faith often takes you through the problem. Faith doesn’t always take away the pain. Faith gives you the ability to handle the pain. Faith doesn’t take you out of the storm. Faith calms you in the midst of the storm…

The Catwalk of Faith

“The source of Christianity’s strength and durability lies in the willingness and ability of Jesus’ followers to retain confidence and trust in its redemptive message. As I have lived my life, I have wondered at the inability of so many to stay the course. It seems that the simple truth of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and perhaps the even simpler one of maintaining confidence in the gospel narrative, becomes increasingly difficult to sustain as year gives way to year.
It is wonderful that in spite of her disappointments, Elizabeth is able to receive God’s word and recognise God’s work. We need those who have proven God’s faithfulness over the years, carry wounds from that walk, yet retain a testimony of confidence in the truth of God to act as witnesses to those following in their footsteps.” Premier, Be still & know

True to your word, you let me catch…
