7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
How you view God as a Father affects how you treat people. If you view the Father as a Father who only blesses other people over you, you will resent other people’s success and breakthroughs but when you view God as a good Father, you not only understand but appreciate and accept that God has individual plans for each and everyone of us. Focusing on what God is doing in other people’s lives limits God’s plans for your life because whilst you are focused on how God is moving in that person’s life, you will completely miss what God is doing in your own life. Jeremiah 29:11, Jeremiah 1:5, Numbers 23:19,
God’s love defines you.
His perfect love as a Father is what defines you. You are His previous child. God sent His only Son to die in your place so that you could be reconciled with Him. Nothing defines unconditional love like that. Knowing that God loves you with an unconditional love changes your view of Him as a Father. You begin to see that He is indeed a GOOD FATHER. A Father who loves you with an everlasting love, a good Father who quietens you with His love. Jeremiah 31:3, Zephaniah 3:17.
Your view of the Father determines what you receive from Him.
It’s simple if you view God as a cruel Father who has “favourites” you will never receive anything from Him because your heart will be closed to His goodness. Matthew 7:11 makes it clear that if earthly fathers can provide the best for their children what more God your Heavenly Father? How much more will your Heavenly Father do for you when you ask Him of anything? You cannot receive from the Father is your heart is closed to Him. He is a good Father who says “Ask of me the nations and I will make them your inheritance”-Psalm 2. I don’t know about you but that gets me really excited to know that the Father can give me absolutely anything I ask for because it’s my Father.
“Never confuse the goodness of God with the goodness of life. God is good even when life isn’t. He is a good Father.”
