2015 The Year I Stepped Out Of My Comfort Zone.

“Stepped out of my comfort zone” is the best way to describe 2015 and that’s all thanks to my blog.

When I started the blog two years ago I had no idea I would be here or have had the opportunities I had from blogging. In fact I did not even think I would survive this far, I guess at the time I was still finding my place in the blogging world. 2015 was indeed a good year for my blog all because I stepped out of my comfort zone.

Beautiful things happen when you step out of your comfort zone and embrace all the greatness that lies within.

Going public with the blog.

I had always had reservations about sharing my blog with family and friends simply because I did not want to let them into my thoughts or even share my struggles about my disability with them. However that all changed one Wednesday evening when I posted a screenshot of my blog homepage and made that my cover photo on Facebook. I also went on to caption the picture with the link to my blog and shared this post. It was the very first post I shared to Facebook. I was so scared, I just did not know what to expect. The last thing I needed was people calling me an “inspiration” but the response I received totally blew me away. The response was overwhelming good. No-one called me a inspiration in fact that post challenged people a lot and I had many people thanking me afterwards. Yes I was finally winning at this blogging thing. From then on I would share the weekly posts on Facebook but I soon realised that not every topic generated interest or sparked conversation so now I only share posts that I feel will create conversation otherwise I feel there’s no point. I want to draw attention to the important topics.

Writing for other blogs/websites.

2015 I stepped out of the comfort zone that is my blog and actually wrote for other blogs and websites. I remember the very first email I sent out asking if a Zimbabwean website could publish this post on their website. I actually had dreams or maybe nightmares about sending out that email days prior to doing so. I was scared of being rejected but much to my surprise they loved the post and thereby invited to write for them. A few months down the line, I was approached by two different websites to write for them as well. I was so overwhelmed to say the very least. At times I feel discouraged when no-one reads my blog and I ask myself why I even write if no-one is interested so when I was approached by these two different websites to write for them, I felt really good. I also have to add that some of these writing opportunities have actually been paid so that makes it even more exciting and not just writing for fun.

Doing fashion shows.

I guess the biggest achievement that came from the blog this year was when one of my friends read this post and asked me to model in her next fashion show. I honestly thought it was a joke when she said that but I was so shocked when she then sent a text message asking when I wanted to come over to her place for measurements. That’s when I realised how serious she was. After that we ended up doing 5 shows in total. (I will write about all the fashion shows I’ve done in the new year). To this day I still like wow man that is crazy how everything all unfolded especially when I bump into people and they say “OMG I know you, I saw you at that fashion show.  A simple thought turned into a blog post which then turned into fashion shows. Like I’ve said before you really don’t know who may read your blog so blog about what you are passionate about.

I am looking forward to another great blogging year in 2016. At this point I would like to thank you all for reading the blog, without readers the blog wouldn’t be what it is today. I wish you all a Happy New Year, may 2016 be all that you hope for and more.
